Day Eight: Authenticating the Learning Process

In today’s AI-powered classrooms, polished final products are no longer enough to show student learning. What matters most is the process—the brainstorming, collaboration, revisions, and reflections that make learning authentic and student-driven. In the AI in the Classroom Starter Kit, we take a deeper dive into how to design authentic learning environments and explore strategies teachers can use to confirm authorship and deepen engagement.
By focusing on visible thinking and authentic checkpoints, teachers can ensure students remain the true authors of their work. Strategies like draft reviews, oral explanations, tone and voice analysis, and citation checks help confirm ownership, while blended learning structures like Learning Studios give students multiple pathways to engage, reflect, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.

Daily Challenge
Working through your lesson plans, look for a product or project to modify to ensure authentic learning.
✅ Pick One - Pick a product or project from the lesson.
✅ Embed - one visible-thinking strategy (draft review, oral explanation, tone/voice check, citation check).
✅ Learning Studios – Add a blended learning structure (Independent Studio, Small Group Studio, Digital Studio, or Future Ready Studio) to make the process visible.
Share your favorite strategy in the community using
✅ AI Tool - Use an AI tool (ChatGPT, Gemini, MagicSchool, or Diffit) to design prompts, rubrics, or checkpoints that highlight student thinking.

Reflect:
  • How did this shift from “final product” to “visible process” change what you learned about your students?
  • Which authorship-check strategy felt most valuable in confirming authentic student work?

5. Authorship Check Prompt
“Suggest strategies to verify student authorship of an essay on [topic], such as comparing tone, checking citations, or requiring annotated drafts.”
balance small group instruction, digital practice, and independent learning.
6. Learning Studio Prompt

  • Include an Independent Studio (practice), a Digital Studio (interactive content), a Small Group Studio (teacher-led or collaborative), and a Future Ready Studio (creative, real-world application).
  • Add at least one authenticity checkpoint to each studio (reflection log, draft review, oral explanation, peer feedback, or rubric alignment) to make student thinking visible.”
